I've gone through the information that Edith gathered from the Newberry Observer and have extracted all of the African Americans who made the news and now I'm sharing that information with you.

They were teenagers out on a hunting trip. When they stopped at a locust tree
Abrams threw a locust nut at Pugh who then picked up his shotgun and killed

Bishop, Negro, an old man, died 8/7/1891.
His 2 children who are 8 and 6 years of age, said nothing, and his body was
discovered the next day by Mrs. Will Sligh on whose land Bishop lived. Squire
Heller was unable to come to the dwelling for an inquest until Saturday. By
then the body was so decomposed as to be offensive. No one wanted to deal with
the dead body so Squire Heller had the dwelling burned, the body cremated

Blackburn, Mart, alias Mart Rook, colored,
committed a murder 5 years ago and had been a fugitive until captured by
Sheriff M. M. Buford 9/29/1902 under the name of Thomas Allen. Page 5, Newberry

Blackman, Charles, colored, was hanged in
Macon GA. for the murder of Stonewall Tondee, white, in 1885. Blackman claimed

Blanton, Fannie, colored, 111 years old, died
in Spartanburg on 1/30/1900. Her daughter was the wife of Bob Bomar, both of

Bluford, Allan, male, black, died 8/21/1898,
of remittent malarial fever. He lived in Ward 3, was 12 years old, born in SC.,
living in Newberry for 12 years. Reported by Dr. J. H. McIntosh. Buried in

Bluford, colored, had a boxing match with
Henderson, colored, at the rear of T. Q. Boozer’s grocery store. Henderson
knocked Buford out in the 5th round with a punch over the left eye. Newberry Observer

child to burns obtained when the child was playing with a broom at the

moccasin. He got drunk on some whiskey sent over by Mr. Evans and the next

Campbell, Richard, colored, had a boxing match with
John Dawkins, colored at the Newberry Hotel on 8/3/1904. The fight went through
the kitchen and downstairs into the lobby. Dawkins was fined in Mayor’s Court
$25 or 30 days on the chaingang. Campbell was fined $15 or 30 days on the chain

Chiles, Robert, colored, found limping in the streets
of Newberry with bullet wounds to the leg, which he stated were from unknown

Clark, Gilbert, colored, was desperately wounded, his
jawbone shattered and a large portion of his face and his entire ear being shot
away with a shotgun by Bill Turner. He most likely will die. Page 8, Newberry

Coleman, George, black, was brought before the Mayor
and fined as follows: for firing pistols on the streets, $25 or 30 days on the
chain gang; for reckless driving on the streets, $50 or 30 days on the chain
gang. He had been drunk early Sunday morning and while driving along the street
in West End was cursing loudly and firing off his pistol. Several citizens
chased him and brought him to town for lock up. It was thought he would work

for murder. He was described as 5 feet 8 inches tall, slender build, 125

Sentinel reported that Will Culbreath had been captured by two citizens in

8/1/1904 from a kick in the stomach received in a scuffle the day before. An

Davis, William, colored, 55 years old, who came to
Newberry when a young man, died at his home on Saturday in Cannontown. He
worked in a printing office, first in the Lexington Dispatch and
afterwards, up to his death, with the Herald and News of Newberry. Burial was
